Bachelor Of Education

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Education at Red Deer Polytechnic prepares future educators to create inclusive, equitable, and engaging learning environments. The four-year degree emphasizes relationship building, social responsibility, foundational pedagogical knowledge, and bridging theory to classroom practice.

Students explore how children and youth learn, what motivates them, and how to design evidence-based teaching strategies that support diverse learners.

Specializations and Academic Pathways

After Year One, students enter a specialization cohort in:

• Early Years (Kindergarten – Grade 4)
• Middle Years (Grades 5 – 9)
• Secondary (Grades 10 – 12)

All students choose a minor subject area. Secondary students also select a teachable subject major.

A Career and Technology Studies (CTS) pathway allows eligible Journeypersons to receive advanced credit and potentially complete the degree in as little as three years.

Work-Integrated Learning and Practicum

Students gain field experience in different school settings each year of the program. The final year includes a full-term practicum, allowing students to apply theory in real classroom environments.

Graduates are prepared to teach in Alberta schools and contribute meaningfully to the education system through inclusive and socially responsible teaching practices.
