The Kinesiology and Sport Studies Diploma (Fitness and Health Promotion) at Red Deer Polytechnic focuses on the multidisciplinary study of human movement and its impact on health and wellness. The program prepares students to design and deliver fitness and health promotion programs for the general population, supporting the growing “exercise is medicine” approach in modern healthcare.
Students develop knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition, and exercise assessment. The curriculum emphasizes fitness testing, exercise prescription, wellness coaching, and community fitness program development. Graduates are prepared to plan and instruct fitness classes, perform fitness assessments, counsel individuals on the connection between physical activity and health, and create and manage community-based fitness initiatives.
The program includes experiential learning opportunities and may support further studies through transfer options such as the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Kinesiology pathway (subject to credit transfer and competitive admission requirements). International students must obtain a Co-op Work Permit for this program.
