Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma

The Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma at Red Deer Polytechnic combines applied engineering theory with hands-on technical training to prepare students for high-demand industry sectors. The program focuses on mechanical systems, thermodynamics, materials, automation, robotics, CNC programming, and design optimization.

Students learn to analyze stress, understand heat transfer, design mechanical components, and improve system efficiency and sustainability. The curriculum emphasizes technical communication, problem-solving, and teamwork to prepare graduates for multidisciplinary engineering environments.

This program is accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada and recognized by professional engineering technologist organizations across Canada. Graduates may pursue designation as Certified Engineering Technologists and, with additional experience, Professional Technologists.

Work-integrated learning opportunities enhance practical industry exposure. International students must obtain a Co-op Work Permit.

  • Academic Requirement: Students must have: • 65% in English (Grade 12 equivalent) • 60% in Mathematics 30-1 OR 75% in Mathematics 30-2 • 60% in Physics 30 Indian Equivalent (for your system entry): 12th Science with Mathematics and Physics (minimum 60–65% in core subjects as applicable). Alternative Entry: Completion of at least one semester of an Engineering Technology / Engineering Diploma or Degree within last 5 years (from accredited institution).
